Salvia leucantha (Mexican Bush Sage)

Click here to view hi-resolution image.

Description

Salvia leucanthaHerbaceous perennial to 2' tall and wide. Velvety purple flowers wave on long stalks above medium-textured fuzzy foliage and add a vertical element to landscape. Blooms year round. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Does not tolerate wet soils.

Maintenance

Grows and blooms in flushes, followed by period of leggy, bare sticks as it drops leaves. When a new flush of growth begins to appear at base of plant, prune old dead parts to the ground. New growth will quickly cover ugly nubs and stumps. Moist conditions tend to shorten its life and it may need to be replaced every 2-3 years if kept too wet.
